The Mahasivarathri Brahmotsavalu are being celebrated grandly in the month of Magham (February or March, the 11th month of Indian Lunar Calendar) . This is a festival of eleven days with Navahaknika Deeksha.
The Mahasivarathri day (29th day of Magham) is the most important day of the festival. So Many people take shiva Deeksha in the and visit Srisailam in the month of Maha Shivaratri.
The important events of the celebrations are Ankurarpana, Dhwajarohana, Vahana Sevas to God and Goddess,
The Brahmothsavams starts with Ankurarpana a religious custom on the event of celebration pursued by the Dhwajarohana in which Dhwaja Patam (a white banner) set apart with Nandi image is raised on the Dhwajasthambha of the sanctuary. It is said that the Dhwajarohana is the noteworthy occasion of the beginning of Brahmothsavams for welcoming all Gods and goddesses (Devathalu).
